Relive the 2008
NFA-BKC Government Relations Summit

The 3rd Annual NFA-BKC Government Relations Summit attendees enjoyed two days full of informative speakers, empowering Hill visits, networking opportunities and entertainment. Rep. Adam Putnam put a great start to the Summit with his energized presentation on the importance of the 2008 elections. Because 2008 was an election year, it was fitting attendees also heard from representatives from both the Obama-Biden and McCain-Palin campaigns. Ike Brannon, senior advisor to the McCain-Palin campaign, broke down specifics on McCain’s policies versus Obama’s that are crucial for small-business operators. In addition, Melody Barnes, senior domestic policy advisor to the Obama-Biden campaign, spoke on behalf of the Obama-Biden campaign on subject matter important to attendees.

The second day began with NFA Chairman Joseph Anghelone, leading a moment of silence in remembrance of 9/11. Oklahoma Congressman, Rep. Dan Boren, was presented with the King of the Hill Award by and gave the captive audience a congressional update. Rick Berman, public affairs strategist, gave a compelling presentation on topics affecting the restaurant industry and provided the audience with commercials and radio spots on Card Check. Franchisees then met face-to-face with members of Congress and their key staff members on Capitol Hill. There were approximately 150 meetings on the Hill during the Summit.

The GRS ended with a Gala dinner complete with emotional speeches, the NFA-PAC Cup Awards presentation and entertainment from the Capitol Steps! Congratulations to the New England Franchisee Association for receiving the NFA-PAC Cup Most Improved Award and to Mid-America Franchisee Association for taking the title as 2008 NFA-PAC Cup Champion!
