What is the IHFA?
The International Hispanic Franchisee Association was founded with the sole purpose of maximizing the business opportunity to the Burger King Brand.

Why is it important for the Burger King Brand to reach the Hispanic market?
  • Hispanic population is at 31 million. Currently 11% of the entire population.
  • U.S. is the 6th largest Latino populated country in the world.
  • From 1990 to 1999 the Latino population has grown an incredible 38% compared to just 9% for the overall U.S. population.
  • By the year 2050, it is projected that the Latino population will triple in size to reach 100 million. (Think of all the Whoppers we can sell).

What are the demographics of the Hispanic Market?

  • The median age for Latino population is 27 years old versus 35.5 years old for the total population.
  • A third of Latinos are under 18 years of age.
  • Latinos should remain a young population well into the next century.
  • The Latino population already represents the majority population in 16 U.S. cities.
  • By the year 2010, nine more cities will have Latino majority populations.

What is the Latino market's purchasing power?

  • Latino buying power in the U.S. during 1999 was $383.3 Billion compared to spending in Mexico of $335 Billion making the U.S. Latino consumer market the 14th largest consumer market in the world.
  • Latino buying power is growing at a rate of $1 Billion every two weeks in Los Angeles County alone.

Fast Food Industry

  • Latinos account for a large percentage of total sales compared to other populations in the U.S.
  • 11% of U.S. population, but 14% of U.S. sales
  • 39% of Los Angeles population, but 48% of sales
  • 38% of Miami population, but 48% of sales
  • 53% of San Antonio population, but 67% of sales
  • 69% of El Paso population, but 90% of sales

Latinos as Consumers

  • Latinos represent a tremendous sales building opportunity.
  • Latinos frequent fast food establishments more than any other type of restaurant.
  • Latinos typically have large families and their party size is generally large.

Latinos and Burger King

  • Latinos represent 14% of Burger king national sales and that translates into approximately $1.5 Billion sales.
